In the wake of previous Disney CEO Bob Iger leaving the Walt Disney Company, and current CEO Bob Chapek taking over, in combination with the pandemic halting the Disney Parks from returning to their full glory, there have been some complaints from Guests. The biggest issue is that many think Disney is pinching pennies at the Guests’ expense.
At Walt Disney World Resort, we are currently still waiting for some highlighted entertainment such as Fantasmic!, Festival of Fantasy, and more to return. Granted, they are said to be returning at some point this year after two years of closure. Disney has even gone on the record to state that they may find savings by reducing portion sizes and how that can be good for Guests’ waistlines. Now, it was revealed that one of the most expensive and commonly purchased souvenirs at Disney would no longer come with a case.
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Guests can travel to a galaxy far, far away when they visit Batuu in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. This is a way that Star Wars fans can step into the world that they have loved for years! One of the perks of visiting is that you can reserve a spot at Savi’s Workshop to build your very own lightsaber.
Although the building process is an entire experience, it does come with a hefty price tag. The lightsabers cost $219.99 plus tax and now no longer come in their previous carrying case, which offered the expensively ticketed item some protection. Instead, Disney gives them to Guests in a clear, plastic bag.
It seems that Disney was out of stock of the carrying cases, and that even when Guests asked for more protection in terms of a carrying case, the only option was to ship it to their home, at nearly $20.00. Whether you are a Jedi or a Sith, it is pretty easy to understand how a lightsaber can break the immersion of the land when being put in a clear plastic bag.
Inside the Magic, readers have been livid about the situation, expressing their concerns. Below are a few of those concerns that have been commented on on our site.
Freedomrocks is stunned at this decision:
That’s really disgusting! The Disney park should have given her a rain check for the case and shipped it at a later time, or given her a partial refund for the cost of the case. This is just one more instance of how the company is moving in a negative direction. Now I know that I won’t be ordering this experience in the future. It’s not worth it.
Richard was shocked as the case is part of the experience and what Guests pay for.
The case is billed to come with the experience Penny. I’d be pressing every button I could to get the case that comes with my expensive experience purchase. The fact the company is unable to supply even a raincheck to have one shipped to her at a later date is showing more and more how Disney is only interested in making shareholders happy.
Laurel, a Disney shareholder, commented and was not happy.
I’m a shareholder and I am NOT happy. The cost of my Disney stock keeps sinking but more than that, I invested in a company that I believed in. One that seemed to understand that providing great experiences would create loyal, happy and repeating customers. This is not the case anymore and it needs to change.
Mike B. has now decided against the Savi’s experience due to the ongoing situation.
Totally understand that one. I was gonna go to Galaxy’s Edge and get one myself but after reading about this, I think I will settle with the Kylo Ren saber that I got at Disney Springs. I really wanted that experience with make your own but if Disney is heading down that kind of Rabbit Hole, I think I will just order a saber from a place like Amazon. Maybe wont be the same but at least I wont get my experience cheapened by a company that may or may not seem to go toward a negative direction. Its sad really cause Disney use to seem like they valued the Guest. If it is in a negative direction that they are leading toward like other big corruptions seem to do at times, they might find themselves losing Guest all together. With how things are turning times for people in this new society and with Covid running crazy once again, not the best time to think of $$$ and less on Guest having that old Disney magical experience. This kind of Rabbit Hole can make or break a company, regardless of how much money they make from Disney+ and from their movies.
The comments only continue to move in a downhill direction, with Disney fans shocked at one Guest’s experience. It seems that in Disneyland Park, Guests are not experiencing the same plastic bag issue, and regular carrying cases are still being given out.
While you are at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can enjoy Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith on Sunset Boulevard. By the Chinese Theater, Guests prepare to ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. In Toy Story Land, Slinky Dog Dash always boasts a long line with others shooting their shot on Midway Mania or spinning their brains out on Alien Swirling Saucers. Of course, you have to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for some blue milk, or green milk, and ride Rise of the Resistance and Smuggler’s Run!
